How the calculator works
- Output per worker per day: working minutes × efficiency ÷ standard time.
- Output of all workers: workers × working minutes × efficiency ÷ standard time.
- Piece rate: daily wage ÷ output per worker per day, where the daily wage is the monthly wage ÷ working days.
- Actual efficiency: pieces produced × standard time ÷ working minutes.
Finding the standard time
- Time study: time a trained worker at a normal pace over several pieces, take the average, then add an allowance for rest, fatigue and small stoppages.
- Operation by operation: the time of a complete piece is the sum of its operations.
- Revisit it when the style changes: a style with extra pockets or embroidery has a different standard time.
Common mistakes
- Setting the piece rate at 100% efficiency: most workers will not reach it, so they earn less than the target. Set it at the efficiency your workers actually achieve.
- Counting the whole shift: if work stops while waiting for work or during power cuts, count the real working minutes, not the shift.
The calculator estimates output; measuring it happens on the floor. In Production Manager, workers confirm receipt and hand over to the next stage with one tap, so every piece gets an entry and exit time at each stage, and you can see the stage that slows the line.
Questions
What does SAM mean?
Standard Allowed Minutes: the minutes a trained worker needs to make the piece or operation at a normal pace, including rest allowance.
Is 100% efficiency possible?
It means working at standard pace for every working minute without a stop. That is why a piece rate is better set at the efficiency your workers actually reach, not at 100%.
Do I calculate for one operation or the whole piece?
Either. For one operation, enter its time and the number doing it; for a whole line, enter the complete piece’s time and every worker on the line.
Do you store the figures I enter?
No. The calculation runs in your browser and the figures are not sent to us. To come back to them, use "Copy link to this calculation".
